Kusina is a family drama movie starring Judy Ann Santos as a woman whose entire life involves a kitchen but not necessarily about cooking alone. Directed by David R. Corpuz and Cenon Palomares, this Pinoy indie film was nominated Best Film at the 2016 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, and eventually won Indie Movie Sound Engineer of the Year for Raffy Magsaysay at the 2017 Star Awards for Movies.
Kusina Movie Plot Summary
In this intriguing movie, Judy Ann Santos plays Juanita, whose mother Emilia (Angeli Bayani) while giving birth, and has a distant father. Puten (Bong Cabrera). As a young girl, Juanita (Princess Ortiz) learn almost everything from her kind and supportive grandmother she calls Inang (Gloria Sevilla). Juanita grows up in the 1940s during the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines, and family was shattered by World War II.
And although the film is centered on the family’s kitchen, it explains how Juanita lived her life and the events happened in the society. There, she cooks food for her family and friends. She married Peles (Joem Bascon) and they had two children – Myrna (Elora Españo), who went underground until the Martial Law era during the Marcos regime and son Adrian (Mike Liwag), who later had a girlfriend Marian (Isha Salic).
