Liway Movie stars Glaiza de Castro as an anti-Marcos activist who was imprisoned and had to take care of her young son inside the prison camp, along with her husband. Directed by Kip Oebanda, this top-grosser, critically acclaimed Pinoy indie film won the Audience Choice award (full-length feature film) and Special Jury Commendation award at the 2018 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.
Liway Movie Plot Summary
In the movie, Glaiza de Castro plays Cecilia Flores-Oebanda, better known as Commander Liway, an activist during the height of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos. She has been spending several years in Camp Delgado, a prison for criminals and political prisoners. Along with her is her husband Ric (Dominic Roco) and their growing son Dakip (Kenken Nuyad), better known as Kip. and infant daughter Malaya.
As Kip was growing up inside the camp, he has no idea about the world outside. To help his son live like a normal child, Liway tells him some fantastic stories, fables and fairy tales, which actually reflect her life story. At some point, Liway also plays the guitar and sang Asin’s iconic songs, “Himig ng Pag-ibig” and “Pagbabalik,” which added deep emotions to the film. Direk Kip revealed that the movie was based on a real story.
