Respeto Movie Plot Summary

In the movie, Abra plays Hendrix, a teenage aspiring rapper living in a slum neighborhood who loves to join underground rap competitions. He has an abusive older sister Connie (Thea Yrastorza), a small-time drug pusher and brother-in-law Mando (Brian Arda), and has a girlfriend Candy (Kate Alejandrino). Hendrix has toughest rival Breezy G (Pinoy rapper Lonnie), who later raped Candy in front of him.

Hendrix lost his first rap battle. And because he badly needed money, he and his friends robbed a small second-hand bookstore owned by Doc (Dido dela Paz), a retired poet and activist during Martial Law under the Marcos administration. The group was arrested but instead of sending them to jail, they were required to help Doc redecorate his store. That was the start of their unlikely friendship and deep respect for each other.
